We engage students to take a leadership role in reducing green house gas emissions within their households and their communities.
This program teaches students about energy efficiency, auditing techniques and sustainable living so they can share their knowledge within their schools, area small-business owners, senior citizens, parents, and other community members to help them save money.
SEI and its partners, Conservation Corps North Bay, Marin Community Foundation, and Cool the Earth, implement a school-based carbon reduction campaign that educates Marin youth about global warming.
In this project, SEI facilitates a strategic planning process at each school, coordinating teachers, staff, parents, and students as they develop goals and strategies to implement sustainable practices at their schools and in their homes.
SEI is designing a high school certificate in energy efficiency and renewable energy that will help students understand and solve climate change issues.

SEI’s staff works with K-6 children in an after-school or summer camp setting. We also train camp counselors and after school coordinators to provide the activities.
The PYC curriculum includes 16 units of project-based learning activities about climate protection and reducing energy use. SEI trains 4th and 5th grade teachers to integrate these activities into their classrooms; the curriculum aligns with California State Content Standards and Environmental Principles and Concepts.
SEI partners with MCR Performance Solutions LLC to develop school pledge programs for utilities. With this unique approach to energy savings, a utility engages students and their families in saving energy by offering energy lessons at school, a pledge program, and a toolkit to install energy-saving measures at home.
SEI handles California marketing and outreach for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council’s Building Operator Certification (BOC) program, which is a nationally recognized training and certification program for building operators offering improved job skills and more comfortable, energy-efficient facilities.
SEI staff and student assistants provided sustainability audits at the Marin Community Foundation and the Center for Regional and Continuing Education at California State University, Chico.
